What does the word "vitamin" mean?

Vitamins are organic substances found naturally in food. Vitamins allow us to absorb nutrients from food. The body cannot make vitamins; therefore, they must be obtained from food.

Two types of vitamins exist: water-soluble vitamin and fat-soluble vitamin. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water easily. Vitamin C,B1(thiamine), B2 (2riboflavin), and B3 (3niacin), as well as vitamin C,B1, B2 (riboflavin), and B3 (niacin), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin folic acid (biotin), pantothenic, and choline are examples. 2000 micrograms is the minimum daily intake for adults over 50 years old to maintain good health. Due to their increased nutrient needs, pregnant and breastfeeding women need 3000 micrograms daily.

Adults over 70 require 1500 micrograms each day, since they lose around 10% of their muscle mass every decade.

Women who are pregnant or nursing need more than the RDA. Pregnant woman need 4000 micrograms daily in pregnancy, and 2500 per day after childbirth. Breastfeeding mothers need to consume 5000 micrograms every day when breastmilk has been produced.
